Auntie Susan's household tips

With the cleaner now AWL (Absent with leave) for four months, I'm constantly on the lookout for little wrinkles to cut down on housework.I really recommend microfibre draining board covers. Everything drains more quickly into them and the board itself remains pristine. Then you just chuck them in the washing machine with your socks and pants when they get a bit grubby.Any other tips gratefully received.

Vinegar, one of my favourite cleaning tools. Great on limescale, cheap and always in my cupboard.  Also soak anything that’s gone off white in a really strong solution of bio washing powder, anything up to two days if you have somewhere convenient, then wash as normal. My son in laws work today shirt sent from grey to brilliant white. Works on stubborn stains too!

I always take my pants and socks to the laundromat when they get grubby. Would they work equally well on cutlery and plates in a dishwasher, do you think?

I also use white vinegar for descaling and cleaning practically everything.Sometimes adding bicarbonate of soda if it’s really stubborn.Also Ecover washing up liquid and Ecover in washing machine adding Ecover bleach for whites.Ecover toilet cleaner too for stopping harmful chemicals from going into the sewers, rivers and oceans.Soda crystals for removing grease from drains.

There’s a Facebook group called Mrs Hinch that is awash with tips for every household problem.  I’d say it is a front for promoting cleaning products but there are some good tips .

Roger - did your mother never you to always wear clean pants in case you got run over by a bus and had to be carted off in an ambulance?!There’s another option though. An adult nappy!! 🤣

I use a spoonful of soda crystals in the wash to help with the scale in the washing machine.
