Can you take old CD's to the Stirling Road recycling centre?

I have heard that you can no longer take old CD's to the recycling centre as they can't be recycled!Like a lot of people I have taken the opportunity to do a huge clearout during lockdown, and have decided to get rid of my CD collection. Some I can probably sell, and most I will take to a charity shop.However I have a bag full of completely worthless, broken and scratched disks that would be inappropriate to do anything with but scrap. If not able to take to a recycling centre, what are you supposed to do with them?Thanks for any help!

The more reuse you can find the better. :)https://www.ealing.gov.uk/info/201171/recycling_services/292/re-use_and_recycling_centres_and_sites/2They're not listed above for Stirling Road - the word "recycling" isn't the same as "reusing" although they are often used interchangeably.  CDs make good bird scarers and there may be other uses.  I've seen them decorated.

Yup when I had dozens of CDs  (with no usable data) I free cycled them thinking nobody could possibly want them and an allotment holder did use them as bird scarers. He said you just bunged garden twine through the middle and dangled them around like Xmas tree lights !

I got rid of alll my CDs a few years ago using the website Momox. They will pay for most CDs - you just type or scan in the barcode. You then send them off and the money follows soon after.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do plan to sell most of my CD's on a site like Momox or Musicmagpie - what I need to get rid of is the completely worthless old discs with nothing on them, scratched, cracked, broken, etc. I know the Stirling Road site has a compactor for general household rubbish - perhaps I could put them in there?

So what is the difference between putting them in the compactor and putting them in your black wheelie bin?(Don't forget to keep a few plastic covers to swap for any broken CD covers you have.)Here is site with upcycling ideas for CDs for those who like doing crafts.  Some are hideous and some are pretty interesting.  I've actually seen them decorated by children for Christmas decorations at nursery school. Breaking them up to make mosaic table tops or mirror frames etc is the idea I find most interesting. There must be more. (Just to prove they can be repurposed!  www.upcycled-wonders.com

I have seen advert on TV where you ring up and tell them what CD's you have. They quote a price and come and collect them. I dont remember the details though.

That sounds like a great service - was it a recent ad you saw? Do let me know if you happen to remember the company - a brief google hasn't thrown up anyone who will come and collect.

You can also Freecycle - the easy way is to use www.trashnothing.com which is an app that you download. With freecycling you list what you want to give away best with a photo generally and then if anyone is interested they will contact you and it is up to them to take away.https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/freecycle/Not so sure about selling.  There's Ebay and Gumtree of course and also Preloved.  There may be a specialist music website. Momex mentioned above sounds good.Oxfam has a music shop in Ealing but it isn't open at the moment.

The Oxfam book shop in TGT also sells music, records, DVDs and CDs.They have new plastic  cases to replace cracked ones when the discs are still in good condition.The last time I asked I was told that scratched discs were sent for recycling but that is some time ago.As I understand it the shop is still closed because the goods will have to be quarantined.
