Shutters

We had great responses from our request for local roofers who start in a few weeks! So we thought it would be great to get local opinions on ground floor shutters. They seem fairly popular in the local area and I wonder if anyone could recommend a supplier or perhaps warn us of anyone not to use. Also is there anything that we should know about having shutters before putting them in?

I had a quote from Plantation Shutters, as used by a neighbour over the road. I thought they were very expensive but have nothing to compare that to. The neighbours' windows look very good, however, so worth giving them a try.

I bought some from California Shutters. Good quality, and good price, but probably because I measured up and fitted them myself. One important point to remember when measuring up is, if possible,  to make sure the shutters clear any beading that might need to be removed when maintaining or repairing the window. You dont want to have to remove the shutters to replace a sash cord.

We used ShutterlyFabulous. Very happy. A friend used somebody who works for ShutterlyFabulous but has his now company. I've seen the results and they are excellent. Not cheap (shutters in general) but comparable to a decent set of M2M curtains from Peter Jones etc.
