I've posted on here before the similarity between this virus and FCOV - feline coronavirus. The parallels are incredible. BUT FCOV IS SPECIFIC TO CATS, IT CANNOT BE CAUGHT BY PEOPLE. It is incredibly contagious and is ubiqitous in cat rescue homes. Having had a rescue kitten die of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) which the virus can morphe to in susceptible cats (although it targets the old, FCOV is, unlike our present outbreak, largely a virus that attacks kittens under 6 months) I now insist any cat I adopt tests negative for FCOV. It is passed through airborne ingestion - and mainly through faeces. Tiny particles from faeces are unfortunately everywhere. I am manic about dispensing the (catlitter liner contained) faeces as soon as they occur into the dustbin and soaking the litter trays even if there is no trace of faeces, in Milton for several hours. Apparently the specialists in cat coronavirus are now starting to work with the human coronavirus specialists so let's hope sharing of research (in the case of cats of course, all research is limited as it is from public donations) will yield results. I will repeat - as there are some stupid reports on social media - cat coronavirus CANNOT BE CAUGHT BY PEOPLE
