Edensor Road Chiswick  New traffic scheme restriction on access/exit

Hounslow Council propose to introduce a scheme in Edensor Rd Chiswick to ensure pupil and parent safety at Cavendish School  by deterring dangerous or inconsiderate parking.Regrettably the full details of this scheme are not well known and some residents believe there will be no vehicle movement (exit/entry)allowed in Edensor Rd.during  the hours of operation. I've asked our Traffic Dept to provide a comprehensive explanation which follows Dear Councillor Todd, Mark asked me to respond to your email below. A number of enquiries have come in regarding this issue to the Traffic inbox, and responses will be going out as soon as possible. Each school street scheme typically operates a ‘white list’ of vehicle number plates, which permits access to certain vehicles during the periods when the road is closed to general traffic. This list would usually cover properties situated within the extent of the school street ‘zone’, in order to allow access to and from properties by vehicle. With regards to the proposed school street at Cavendish Primary, it is recognised that Edensor Road offers the only westbound route for vehicles across a wide residential area to access the A316. This is due to the one way southbound section of road on Corney Road, and the road layout at the junction of Grantham Road and Edensor Road, which prevents a right turn from Edensor Road into Grantham Road. The ‘white list’ for this scheme will therefore be extended to include any residential property on, or accessed off, Edensor Road, Edensor Gardens, Pumping Station Road, Grantham Road, Corney Road and Dartmouth Place, including Corney Reach. This will allow residents to pre-register vehicles and use Edensor Road during the closure times as permitted vehicles. Monitoring the impact of the trial in reducing traffic volumes at the school, will be a key part of assessing the effectiveness of the scheme, alongside understanding local changes in travel patterns to and from the school. Residents will be written to in advance of the school street commencing, to provide full information on the timings of the school street and how to register a vehicle exemption. I will also pick up this issue and provide a response within the FAQ section of the council’s website (https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2175/south_chiswick_liveable_neighbourhood/2) More general information on the school streets process can be found via the council’s website;https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20053/transport/2157/school_streets If you have any further questions, do please let me know.
