“Well, that makes it all OK then.”I was curious about this apparently incredibly ignorant post at 8:51 this morning. I found the above. Why, I wondered, was this so ignorant? What was it a response to that drove the ‘pig-ignorant’ comment? This forum is a bit clunky so it can be tricky to work out exactly which post it was a reply to, but I think it is this one:“In the Caribbean some of the descendants of slaves have done really well for themselves so out of a terrible tragedy many life’s [sic] are much better today”Now, for me, that is an ignorant post. It implies that it is all for the best that people were transported in the worst imaginable conditions to then be forced to labour as slaves … because generations later a few of their descendants will do quite well in that lovely sunny Caribbean. We do not apply that to others whose fore-fathers have suffered terribly. We do not say, look that some of those lovely singing Welsh businessmen. They have done so well considering the dreadful conditions down the pits in the 19th century. It is patronising double standards. So was the “well that makes it all ok then” post so very ignorant? I do not think so. And if not, then why the barrage of insults directed at the poster? Seems bang out of order and does not present you in a good light.
