Dogs barking before 7am

Can anyone recommend who we need to contact at Hounslow council about a neighbour who is allowing their dog to bark between 6am and 7am each morning? A number of us are living in an apartment block and have been persistently woken up by this barking.  We do not mind occasional barks in the day but before 7am is unacceptable;  All of our bedrooms are above where it happens and we feel it is unfair that our sleep patterns are dictated to by a dog owner.  We have made a log book of the times but are unsure of where to send them.Many thanks

Kayte,unfortunately living in a flat,especially at the moment with lockdown is driving us all a bit mad as we can be used to a routine, may I ask if you have have spoken to your neighbour? and if you have a dog or children,who may...bless them...break these rules?.I hope very much it is not going to cause extra grief with someone who may very well be going through self isolation and is doing their best...are you able to help them?

The person is not going through self isolation as is out in the local parks walking dog multiple times a day, goes out shopping  and inviting friends over. I am sensitised to the current climate as you mention but the person does not identify with the comments you made. The person has been reminded of the times and disturbance but offers hostile responses. One of our neighbours was in hospital for covid and needs rest, this is especially important at the moment as covid has caused them Lymphopenia and it is known that stress, combined with lack of sleep makes it even worse and hinders recovery. Like I said, we understand and am ok with noise after reasonable hours, but before 7am is unfair. This has been going on for many years not just recently.

Report this to your apartment block management, as noise at antisocial times is likely to be in breach of their lease or tenancy agreement.

So that's 2 wrong answers to Paul's question..The real answer is obvious.  You can't.  Because even if a pawwatch (see wristwatch) had been invented,  doggies can't tell the time..  Especially when doggies are left alone.  And are barking alone (probably in the garden) ... Alone...And the solution is NOT with the dog.  Never is.  It's always some owners who are to blame...

Perhaps that's the time they get up and let it into the garden?  I take mine out on the garden on a lead last thing at night or in the early mornings and if they start to bark (unlikely, even squirrels aren't around much at that time) they are dragged inside instantly and told firmly to shut up.  I don't let them out off the lead until around 11 am. Maybe your neighbour, if getting up and letting them out at that time is their pattern, could ensure the dog is on a lead if out before, say, 9 am?

It is perfectly possible, indeed desirable, to train a dog not to bark. However, it is more important to ensure that the dog has sufficient exercise and stimulation so that it is unlikely to cause nuisance barking in the first place.Owners frequently unwittingly train their dogs to bark by ignoring the barking and then giving in when they become exasperated, just extending the length and volume of the barking.I am liaising with the dog warden to provide professional advice and training for owners subject to noise nuisance orders, but far better to prevent it in the first place.
