When my siamese went missing years ago, I followed the advice in the lost and found section of www.catchat.org I took a week off work to follow all the suggestions to the letter, including leafleting hundreds of houses and putting posters up every few yards. Initially I only put posters - with a good photo and when and where he went missing - for around 200 yards around but when that didn't work after a couple of days I increased the area to around a mile. Took forever but it worked - an elderly lady called me to say she had seen a cat that looked like the one in the poster on her garden shed and he was there now. I rushed over - about half a mile away - and it was him, very hungry after 7 days of wandering. I hope it works for you too. Leave some of your (unwashed) clothes, his bedding and old cat litter out in the garden, they can smell it from a long way away.
