Initially on seeing the news that Irish Sea ports were being set up as customs entry points for goods moving between mainland UK and Northern Ireland I was expecting a fairly animated debate on this. The PM was highlighted as being recklessly dishonest back last year when he promised no such customs border. At the time he even asked that anyone being given a customs form for moving goods from England to N Ireland should send it to him - he would see it was binned. So this was no casual lie or error but a calculated lie. Thus, when it became clear this week that Johnson is once again lying surely we should expect outrage. Even with the distraction of the pandemic.Nothing. A couple of newspaper columns. But otherwise nothing. The Brexit & Johnson fans here seem happy to just let this one pass. Everyone else seems to simply shrug. It is pathetic. But then I read a post on an unrelated thread that explained it. This issue is simply uninteresting to most people. It is an 'over there, nothing to do with us' issue. We don't move goods to N Ireland. Frankly we don't really care about either bit of Ireland. That place has been a pain in the neck for decades, we are well shot of it. Who cares if this leads to N Ireland joining up with Eire. Dull. Not of interest. And the fact that Johnson lied? Err, that is so unsurprising that it barely can be called news. Again, uninteresting. And I suspect that this is a view shared across the majority of the country. And I find that shocking.
