Does anyone know if it's now open again? I recall they shut it to discourage anyone but immediate locals but now we've been given the green light to go further I'd like to go there.

Their web site is contradictory on the matter. The visit section seems to indicate it is open but there has been no announcement after the one informing us of the closure. With government advice more explicit about exercise being encouraged and no reported issues with social distancing in Gunnersbury there doesn't appear to be a valid reason for continuing with closure.

On GP's Facebook page it's saying car park is closed.
Loraine Pemberton ● 2367d
I think not as there are lots of cars parked in the road every day.

It closed on 8th April. http://neighbournet.com/server/common/congunnsprk105.htm

I think you should ask them to reopen it, Joanna, since, as I say, people are just parking in Popes Lane instead, with almost every free space taken mid morning. How does that help stop the transmission of the virus?
The question was has it re-opened.Do try and keep up.

They are considering whether to reopen it but it won't be till after bank holiday, if so.
Susan Kelly ● 2364d
They have announced that they will NOT reopen the car park, despite increasing numbers of cars clogging up the surrounding streets. Pointless virtue signalling.
Susan Kelly ● 2358d
"Pointless virtue signalling."Or a serious effort to help maintain social separation within the park.

If it's OK to open Sainsbury's car park then do explain to me why not Gunnersbury where people will spread out over hundreds of acres of open air rather than than a few thousand square feet of enclosed space?
Adrian Irving ● 2357d
'Or a serious effort to help maintain social separation within the park.'People are parking in the street instead so it isn't doing that.

Since so many people seem to be in large groups in the parks it appears that the new mantra doesn't work. So many people are not distancing themselves.
Philippa Bond ● 2357d
Even for a larger group they may have a good reason not to be socially distanced for instance a group of work colleagues who are taking a break and can't practically observed distancing in their jobs or a multi-generational family household. I don't really see anyway why this is in anyway relevant to closing the car park. The excuse about construction activity doesn't really stand up as the construction vehicles are not supposed to access the site that way. Are construction workers being allowed to use the car park?
Kevin Howard ● 2357d
Very little visible construction going on.
Ken Munn ● 2357d
Construction workers are using the car park as work continues on the sports hub but it's only a handful of vehicles.People parking in the street have to pass through narrow gates to enter the park so would be safer in the wide open spaces of the car park.I see no sign that social distancing isn't being observed inside the park. What is being ignored is the rule that dogs should be on a lead. People can never grasp that you shouldn't pass a law that you can't or won't enforce.
Decidedly foolish not to socially distance with work colleagues if at all possible - many companies are only allowing a reduced number back into a building at a time and are putting in place no-touch doors etc - and even if they all have no option but to work together too closely then to also do this in free time sitting in the park when it is thought that the amount of virus you are exposed to is of consequence seems unnecessarily foolish.

Last post from GP said will not open the car park yet as people flouting the rules re distancing, dogs off lead and recently a fire in the fishing lake grounds.
Beryl Bashford ● 2354d
So many cars parked in Popes Lane this afternoon that they were delaying the E3 buses.
Susan Kelly ● 2354d
wasnt open this morning and there were a fair few people in the park - all behaving sensibly.seems daft to keep it closed, given you have to walk through a narrow gate to enter the park - the nearest we got to anyone else all way round.
Sara Nathan ● 2354d
There are wider gates at other entrances.
