The obvious answer Alan is that over 4 weeks after lockdown we're still experiencing such a high rate of infection and deaths, and unlike many countries we don't appear to have a strategy in place for relaxing the lockdown. For every Spain, Italy or France there's a Germany, South Korea, Sweden, Australia etc.As I said from the outset, we'll never know if the lockdown in this country has proved effective at limiting the rate of infection or death rates. I doubted the effectiveness of a lockdown before it even started here, and stand by my comments at the time that it had to be all or nothing. In the space of around 10 days we went from Boris being reluctant to impose any restrictions on civil liberties to the lockdown we now find ourselves in, which is still not as draconian as in many places.Yet ironically now the government seems unwilling to implement a phased lifting of the lockdown for fear of a 2nd wave. So we're getting the worst of both worlds, whereas other countries, whose peak should have been later than ours, are already re-opening businesses. And I should stress this isn't about me as an individual, despite the fact I'm seemingly not eligible for a penny from the state I've got enough work to keep myself going, and when all this is over it'll be an extremely busy time.
