Why wont they repurpose Traffic wardens

Traffic Wardens can still be seen looking for at cars to ticket. That can’t be a sensible use of their time.Wouldn’t it be better if they were retrained to patrol Thames Paths, Public Parks and green spaces and streets to look out for anti social behaviour and clusters of people not observing social distancing. Even their presence could be helpful. Has this been considered?  It’s also Traffic enforcement.

There are still far too many cars parked illegally and irresponsibility so it is quite right that the traffic wardens are deployed to issue penalties. General crime rates have dropped radically so there are plenty of police available to patrol and prosecute the thousands who are ignoring the Covid-19 rules. When last did you even hear a police siren. I would agree that traffic police could be deployed to deal with non traffic related crimes if possible.

And our police have plenty of time to stand around and ignore the fools who are out and about spreading the virus. Covid is, apparently, placing a severe strain on council finances. Keeping up some sort of revenue flow from parking contraventions is, therefore, important.

When you say it’s not a good use of their time , isn’t that the actual job?They do provide revenue for councils. And try to stop some dreadful parking

I have seen numerous breaches of the distancing regulations and barely a police officer or equivalent in sight to have a word with people and provide a presence in Chiswick. Surely that is a greater priority at the moment. Isn’t it? Or at least as important, in terms of preserving life and health. It’s not just about revenue, is it?

Why do people think that this situation gives them carte blanche to park where they like without threat of enforcement. More than ever we need to keep the roads clear, and with most people at home, parking in residential streets is tight.Having been out and about occasionally, the vast majority of people are being sensible and the numbers do show this us working,  so greater enforcement is unlikely to have much impact, much like people displaying their Daily Mail levels of disgust and outrage on local fora.

The police should be out there generating some revenue by fining those who break the social distancing laws. The traffic wardens are doing a great job.
