Clap for pay rise for carers
The applause for carers is, well, to be applauded. But clapping is cheap. Let’s be honest that appreciation is not the same as giving. We can be thanking. That is not paying. Forking out is different from saying thanks. 10 years of austerity has, in effect, cut health service pay. Bleaters defending Tory policy claim more money has gone into the NHS. No. Nurse pay has been cut. Don’t lie about that. So. Maybe. Let’s clap for more investment in our health care. Maybe let’s not do the easy “ta for doing your job” clapping. Let’s clap for a fundamental change in policy. Let’s clap for responsible ministerial action. Because I suspect that it is what health care workers would want us to clap for.
