Kings House did, very considerately, contact Dukes Meadows Trust a few weeks ago to make us aware of their wish to build the new 3G pitches. They also want to create parking provision on site to support the new facilities. We welcomed the contact and the intention to seek to accommodate the parking needs in Kings Houses grounds. An aerial map of the Meadows shows that Kings House occupies an area larger than the whole of the public area of the park, this side of the railway. We suggested that KH explores creating enough permanent and temporary parking in its grounds to support its events and visitors, so they don't negatively impact informal park users and neighbouring residential streets. The area Kings House proposed to create the parking is adjacent to the boundary with Chiswick Cricket Club and KH were amenable to seeing if a shared parking facility could be created to support the events of both clubs. It could be accessed from part way along Riverside Drive, which would reduce the number of vehicles going further into the park and so reduce the conflict with pedestrians and cyclists.I made an email intro with the lady at Kings House and Hounslow Council's traffic officers. She asked me to do that and was keen to work with officers on a good solution, prior to submitting a planning application. The response from Hounslow to me was at best luke warm and indicated that they didn't indicate wanting any further involvement with us or other clubs and the community around the Meadows.I am still hopeful, that the opportunity this application offers to make the meadows safer and more pleasant for informal park users; families pedestrians and cyclists and to relieve the impact of event parking on adjoining streets will be positively taken up. If not and the application doesn't relieve park users and local residents of the problems caused by event parking, then people can submit objections, but that would be regrettable as Kings House seemed to be keen to make adequate provision in its grounds and to wok constructively with others.

There is a planning presumption in favour of sports development and the area is shown as an area for sports development in the local plan. The 3G pitches, third generation AstroTurf, replace the grass pitches with an artificial surface on a concrete base, but the grass replaced is closely mown, so is of low ecological value. The important thing is that development is socially and environmentally responsible and sustainable, which means that the problem of accommodating parking isn't pushed onto park users and neighbours, degrading the park environment and putting cyclists and pedestrians at risk. Kings House has invested in the grounds since taking them on and has greatly increased the number of events. That has not up to now included increasing the capacity of the club grounds to accommodate increasing numbers of car and coach visits, although the developments have required planning consent, so there would have been an opportunity to protect park users and neighbours from the negative impacts of increased visitor numbers. That has been an omission that has negatively impacted park uses and neighbours. That the club now wants to address the problem by creating parking in its grounds, is to its credit. We have to hope that the council whilst supporting King's House to develop its facilities, will also protect the interests of park users and residents. As Paul says, limiting the hours that lights can be left on can also be a condition in the planning consent. That is more likely to happen if residents and park users lobby councillors and respond to the planning application.
