How to nurture mouse saved from cat

Can anyone give me some tips, please? I've put it in a cardboard box, obviously with vent holes, lined with a warm snuggly faux fur scarf. I've sprinkled some chopped up carrots, apples and bird seed, plus a bit of grass. It's still alive and stirs when I peep into the box. Will the carrots and apples supply moisture for it? Any tips would be much appreciated. Poor little thing, it's so very cute. I hope I can save it.

Not given it water, as hoping apple and carrots will provide that for the moment. I'll set it free later when cat is in. Hopefully it will still be alive. I'm trying to keep it safe and warm until I release it.

My cat had injured one a few weeks back and left it in the conservatoryIt look like it was dying until I open the door, then it seem to come round and limp out.

There's never just a single mouse!  It will need water - mice pee non-stop.  Let it out to find it's family and hope it stays outside not in your house.

I've googled and apparently cheese is not top of their list in food preferences. I'll let it out this afternoon when it's a bit warmer, and keep the bloody cat in! He won't be happy, but tough catty! I'll let you know if it's still alive, which I sincerely hope it is.

Could you please tell us what foods they do prefer then Jill, so that we can stock up on the  necessary goodies for when we might end up in your predicament?

They die of shock more often than from an injury, it will want to get away from the vicinity of the cat so won't feel better u till you let it go.

Roger, google allaboutmice.co.uk and all will be revealed about wild mice. I've put some water in the box. It's still breathing, but staying still. The sun is warming its body. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will survive.

I was recommended to ring a chap called Chris who looks after wildlife. He's currently nursing some abandoned baby rabbits and some pink baby rats whose eyes aren't even open yet. I didn't think he'd be interested in my mouse, but he was very kind and helpful. He said to keep it in the dark in the cardboard box for another 4 hours and leave it alone. Not to give it water or food as its throat could be constricted through shock and it could choke. I'll set it free later when the cat's in. I hope it's not too cold for it and the little fella/girlie survives. It's still alive but hasn't moved much. I know it's only a mouse, but I care about it and really want it to live.

Just opened the box and, boy, had it recovered! It shot out the box and started charging round the flat like a demon! I cursed myself for being so stupid. I chased it around the flat and then opened the patio doors. Thankfully it shot out, only to be confronted by my cat again, who I grabbed and is now firmly locked in for the night. So, a successful outcome. I shall keep a watchful eye out tomorrow for any further incidents and hopefully it will manage to hide and distance itself from Alfie. End of story. A good outcome. Well done you!Brilliant piece in today's'i' page 32 about the fecklessness of cats, seems lots of people have set up What's App groups and keep tabs on their kitties who break into other houses or who nick food. Conclusion is we're all suckers for moggies and don't they know it!

Thank you, Vanessa. I realise that in the grand scheme of things and that with everything that's going on in the world at the moment, it really is so very inconsequential. Just a humble little wild mouse of no importance. But I brought it back to life, and that makes me feel happy.

It is important, well done, Jill, hope the little thing recovers. I can tell you some interesting stories about having cats and hamsters at the same time!Despite having a catproofed garden (for their safety as well as the safety of other creatures, hopefully happier neighbours etc) my snowshoe boy is an avid hunter and still manages to get the odd mouse, and, distressingly, baby birds which he gets from the garden and which he proudly presents to me and is clearly amazed that I am not overjoyed with him...

One day,a neighbour who lived along the road from us, informed me that one of my cats spent most summer afternoons asleep on her sofa with her cat. "No Way" said I..."Come and see" said she ...so I did.  Well, you should have seen the look on my cat's face when I said...."Hello".  He shot out of her french window like a rocket!

Jill, I'm surprised he said not to give it water as they seem to recover after a drink and if they see an open door they are off.
