Governor Andrew Cuomo

Sky News usually carries the daily press conference from NY State Governor Andrew Cuomo at about 4.30pm each day. It is a masterclass on how to inform the public (primarily New Yorkers) of the current situation, trends, risks and a consistant stay at home message.I appreciate that information is probably easier to obtain from a smaller defined footprint, NY State, but the quality and depth of the slides (and yes they come up exactly on cue) is impressive and detailed. He presents himself as someone you can believe in and his humanity comes across well.Sadly our 5.00pm 'press conference' seems like amateur hour in comparison.The scale of the disaster (infections/deaths) in NY State is of a similar order to the whole of the UK.As and when (all medical caveats acknowledged) NY starts to develop and share their exit strategy I will be watching with great interest. If you have Sky News and can watch: you will learn.Sadly he has ruled himself out running against Trump - America's loss.

It seems that 80% of people who end up needing ventilators in NY are dying. Terrifying statistic. In fact, I heard a doctor in Washington DC about ten days ago say that they weren't short of ventilators because people were dying so quickly that they were constantly freeing them up.

Yes he really is brilliant David. It is a master class in how to lead in a crisis. Authentic yet authoritative, detailed yet expansive. The world needs more leaders like Cuomo. But the people need to vote for them too.

"UK records Europe's highest single-day death toll as 980 die from Covid-19 in past 24 hours."Nearly a thousand dead in a day. You wouldn't know that listening to the government media show this evening.And a chief nurse who doesn't know how many healthcare workers have died.

Ken that’s not true, on the daily briefing the chief nurse said she was not going to talk about frontline deaths as she did not have permission from some of the families. Cuomo is brilliant at his daily briefings but he is dealing with more deaths in NY than the whole of the UK. He looks exhausted and extremely stressed. COVID 19 doesn’t discriminate there will be a lot more deaths around the world. I have absolutely no doubt that every frontline worker is doing their very best for every patient with compassion and professionalism.

No, I think Ken is right. Giving the number of nurses who have died, which was all she was asked, would not infringe anyone's confidentiality. The fact that she refused to do so suggests that she doesn't know how many.

Brilliant Julian, that’s exactly how I feel some people just want to point out the negatives and/or political points scoring. Let’s focus on all the positive stuff, frontline staff sadly will die regardless of PPE, this virus takes no prisoners that’s why we must all stay home! has everyone got the message and can we praise the efforts everyone is making please, thank you.
