Toilets to be installed for 94 bus drivers by the bus stop

I just saw a guy in high viz putting up signs in the neighbourhood. Toilets to be installed for 94 bus drivers by the bus stop, in the green bit behind the bus shelter. Signs are going up around Acton Green W4 to inform the community that the 94 bus stop will now have a toilet for the bus drivers as apparently the council have closed the public toilets on the common due to the current virus news. I just asked him why they are not allowed to use the toilet at the Goldhawk Road bus station terminus. As bus drivers have always done in the last hundred years. (back then it was the 88 bus and before that trams)

Bus drivers are only allowed to take toilet breaks during layovers at each terminus. They are not allowed to leave a bus full of passengers at the mid point of the journey. So Acton Green bus stand is the most suitable location.

During the rotation of 94 bus services the full service was reduced to Goldhawk Road where the majority of bus drivers could take a break. The practice used to be once upon a time the passengers got off the bus and onto the fresh bus/ refreshed driver at Goldhawk Road -then down to the Acton Green terminus and back around. As fewer passengers would continue to Acton Green. It’s ecologically better all-round to lessen the physical buses full journey from Goldhawk Road at this uncertain time, to say they are not allowed sounds very restrictive. If there are fewer buses which they already the alternative is the 440 further up south parade at Bedford Park to get to Shepherd’s Bush and onwards. The volume of people using the 94 bus at Acton Green is extremely low at these at this time. I’m just offering alternatives that may be better for the environment.

I suppose a similar solution is needed for the 70 bus, now it's been banned from Chiswick Business Park. The drivers can no longer use the purpose built facilities at the original terminus so I guess they have to find somewhere else.

I don't see what the problem is with installing a toilet for bus drivers at the Acton Green bus stand. Why should they be made to hold on until the bus returns to Goldhawk Road?  They are putting their lives at risk by continuing to provide an essential service during the current national emergency and some people would deny them the use of a toilet.  Incredible!

What has this got to do with Nimbyism? The council closed the toilets. Why not padlock them and give keys to the drivers?

What evidence do you have that anyone is objecting to the installation of temporary toilets. What Dan is suggesting is let the drivers continue to use the public toilets that are already there. Like most of your posts the aim seems not to add to the debate but to signal how much more enlightened you are than the common herd. This is slightly undermined by the use of what some would regard as a racial slur.

I checked on Ealing council's web site. No planning application (not sure if one is required). Surprised to see that planning applications are still being submitted. How can residents possibly be properly consulted about them at the moment?

Would be the ideal time for anyone wanting to put through a planning application that was likely to be controversial and therefore you can assume that many will. However, despite Paul Campbell's claims that the nimbys would want to block this proposal there is no evidence that anybody would and in the light of the story in the ChiswickW4.com newsletter yesterday about bus driver fatalities I would assume any objection would now be withdrawn. The situation demands that the council reopen the toilets on Acton Green for bus drivers' use.I'm not in a position to judge whether Mr Campbell is an anti-Welsh racist or not because I'm not Welsh but given the time of his posting and the incoherence of the arguments he was making it looks like drink had been taken. I'm not going to condemn him harshly for that as it is a refuge many of us are seeking in these troubled times.

Andrew,The letter put up on the lamp post is from TFL signed Carl Eddleston (Head of asset Operations). It is bizarre Ealing council have just switched off their restroom (exclusively only used by drivers anyway the end toilet on the Green)  must be mainly because they wont staff the toilet maintenance at this time.
