As someone who has suffered a bereavement during this outbreak the last thing I would want to happen is for the nation to lose its sense of humour. It was very funny and cheered me up at a dark time.

Forwarded it on WhatsApp to a relative who is working at an ICU at the moment got numerous laughing face emojis in return.This week's Private Eye is also particularly good. Far darker humour than this spoof but to me it reenforces this magazine as a national treasure.If you feel humour is inappropriate during this crisis I can respect that, but you need to understand that for many of us it is an indespensible part of getting through all this.

GGGRRRRRR!!Thank goodness for folk like Susan, Mark, Alastair and Francis..This thread's enough to make a saint scream!As if this forum's saturated in originality or even mild creativity!  Then someone takes the trouble to invent a nice little April Fool story (which would have taken several hours ) only for the local bad-taste police (not one with a creative bone in his/her body) to come along and to throw a pile of  deeply-offended mud in its face!Grrrrr.  It's not even dark humour let alone black.  It's simply a pretty decent piece of work, created in good faith and well worthy of it's place as an April 1st headline.  I liked it too as did Anita Blake on another thread..PS:- (and Silvia, there's always someone – but next year do try and not be the one to give the game away...  no need)

For me its not the content,i only read the headline and thought,what a load of twaddle. Not what i call a april fools joke,its supposed to be half funny and half potentially believable for a short period of time

"I had to google ‘amadan’"I recall that when Mike Oldfield's "Ommadawn" album came out a member of the Irish band Horslips thought the name was an Anglicisation of "Amadan", which he translated as meaning a simple man.

Well actually old chum you didn't even read it.  So maybe you might now ask yourself,  was any comment really necessary.  Even though your definition of a great April Fool's story is obviously accurate. I only say this as someone who knows just how much bloody hard work often goes into creating such things...Critics should try it one day...

No problem with a subjective judgment. Not every one has the same sense of humour. However, I'd say it warrants a second read as there are some very funny bits I hadn't spotted initially.One issue I would have your view is with believability. Sad to say there probably will be a surge of children with inappropriate names born around this time including a few Covids.

Google has banned April fools this year - Microsoft did last year. I did wonder what W4 would do given the circumstances.Had quite a nice one from one of my pet food suppliers to say they were today launching a dog collar that translates barks into human speech..although with mine it's usually clear what they are saying - either feed me, walk me or I am tired and it's time we went to sleep so don't think I'll apply for one (and not sure in any case I want to know :))

Can't blame some people for having a sense of humour failure at the moment. We are all going to react differently to these strange circumstances but those who want to maintain a sombre mood shouldn't be allowed to force it on the rest of us who really need something to laugh about right now.

The only issue i had was the headline,it gave the game away  before even reading the article so did not bother. In my view it should have had another headline and then slowly given the game away inside the article. That way some may have been as they say "fooled" for a little longerIts only my point of view,not a point of or being a missery guts and certainly not important.Just that the "April Fools" failed in the headline from the start for me,thats all.

Many years ago on one of the Sunday colour supplements was a striking reproduction of a portrait by Van Gogh of W.G. Grace.  Apparently it had been recently discovered in somebody’s loft.  The article went on to describe Vincent’s period living in London.  Because of his depression and mental health issues he was naturally drawn to cricket and befriended W.G. Grace etc etc.  I was riveted and I’m embarrassed to admit that it was several columns in before the penny dropped.

There are some miserable so-and-sos on here. I thought it was pretty funny, and was the last thing I expected to see on the W4 homepage. (Also, how do some of the moaners know that the pictured nurse is Chinese, or are they just making assumptions?)

Some years back on a 1st April I posted a new topic "The Brentford and Chiswick Times has been folded up" A shock to the community indeed.One of our lively current posters immediately posted that the news was disgraceful after such a 100 year history etc etc.I next posted a picture on the Times neatly folded up on my kichen table. Our Forum friend was tripped up hook line and sinker.No offence intended...if she's reading this!
