Flour

Anyone have any ideas as to why there is still no flour in the shops.Does anyone know of a secret stash ???

This is a very strange shortage.  I eventually found some plain flour in Hakakat on Acton High Street.  That was several days ago and after having visited nearly every food outlet on the CHR without success.I don’t know why there has been a shortage.

I think a lot of people now have breadmakers or perhaps intend to do some cooking that they don't normally do.  It's a big incentive to try out the machine that you got for Christmas that has been sitting in a cupboard or try out something you saw on The Great British Bake Off!  It will be interesting to find out how this has changed people's routines and what new recipes they have tried or tweaked or created to deal with the ingredients they already have.

I would have thought flour is not as well-stocked or topped up to the levels it possibly now needs for its past demand and sudden demand. And when its gone the stock is replenished to the old levels which are clearly not sufficient anymore. With children out of school, baking goes on the to-do list, which will create that sudden extra demand. But do shops know this as an item that needs increased stock for the sudden extra demand

I regularly bake my own bread and was also concerned about the shortages but bought a 1.5kg bag from Sainsbury's, Chiswick this morning. Shops are getting deliveries.

Hi Maureen - We have a stash of all-purpose flour with a fair amount available to us through a catering supplier so should be enough to go around.Do let me know if you'd like some. The bags we have on hand usually take 750g.

The Duchess (former Duchess of Cambridge) at the junction of Stamford Brook Road and Goldhawk Road has turned into a shop selling essential groceries and booze.  I think I spied self-raising and plain flour in their Instagram video.

Hi Georgina-Happy to oblige.To be honest, as we're not in the flour selling business, I've no idea what to charge. A pound for 1kg? And then, like all, we'd limit that to two per customer for the time being.And yes, per current guidelines we are open for takeaway and delivery of our entire menu and have meal deals to cater for lunch or dinner. Or just dessert as well.Our sincere thanks and gratitude to all whose support we rely on.As to the post on Gail's, while it remains uncertain who will qualify for relief, I know some are concerned about letting staff go which might then disqualify them for assistance (quite possibly the business as well as the employee) as opposed to reducing hours or soldiering through to qualify. To us we also see a social component. Giving the slightest modicum of normalcy and routine in this upside down world.

Bread makers have sold out, so yes the bread shortages have many people baking there own. And people have the time to bake too!

Sarah-As of today we now have plain, self-raising and bread flour!Yeast is on its way and should be with us Tuesday. Our supplier was out so I'd like to thank Angie's across the street from us who was able to sort this out on our behalf.With the flour we are doing 1kg bags and currently limiting two bags per customer total. So for now, you cannot buy two of one type and another two of another type. From what I'm seeing the plain and self-raising appear to be staying in stock for longer so hopefully that is balancing out. The bread flour just re-appeared in very short supply so not sure of consistency on that. Flour is one pound for a 1kg bag.Yeast - I'm not sure yet what is being sent in terms of packaging. It may need to be decanted one way or another for smaller amounts.As I mentioned, we do have the ability to do contactless at delivery if that should help.
