Sainsbury's?

I haven't visited for ages, but need to venture out today to stock up on some basics. Is it still awful? I'm not taking the car so need to be in walking distance to stagger home. If Sains is still bad, I could go to Waitrose, but it's further than I'd like to walk with heavy bags. Thanks.

Jill, I have admitted defeat on carrying heavy shopping bags and now have a shopping trolley.  Don’t buy the cheapest but look for one with slightly, ,larger wheels.  It will be more robust and stable.  I borrowed one that frequently tipped over and was difficult to on uneven pavements and tipped over when trying to pull it up kerbs.

Which one did you buy, Elizabeth? Oh lordie, I never thought I'd succumb to a shopping trolley! I've always thought they were for old folks, but I'm going to be 70 next week so I guess it's time to start accepting the fact that I'm fast becoming an oldie! Perish the thought!

For old folks?  Shame on you!  The eternally youthful Mrs B was advised by her doctor to buy one in her mid-forties to help with her frozen shoulder.  She has been out and proud with it ever since!  It was designed and manufactured by Rolser and is still as good as new all these years later.

Jill - I went to Sainsbury's yesterday lunchtime, and thankfully the lunacy seems to have abated. The influx of selfish hoarders seems to have abated. Although there were still marked gaps on the shelves (loo rolls!!), I still managed to pick up what I needed and the tills were not busy. We were all even able to put our social distancing into practice!!

I've got a shopping trolley! And a very fun and trendy one at that with lots of doggies on it - I would have preferred cats, but hey ho! Loraine Pemberton kindly sold me hers for a tenner  (she's only used it once) and it's bloody brilliant! I managed to pack loads of stuff into it - 6 large bottles of Highland Spring, tonics for my gin plus lots of other basics. I LOVE my trolley! I shall never drive to Sainsbury's again! It was very quiet in there, no long queues. But no wine, not one single bog roll, no nuts, eggs or pasta, plus far too many empty shelves. The High Road very deserted, lots of folks wearing masks and social distancing in order. Maybe the message is finally starting to filter through.

I've been using a shopping trolley since in my late 30s - also because of a frozen shoulder and for things like peat which I cannot quite manage on my bike - never used the car in the High Rd even when I owned one. They are marvellous things - and certainly not an age thing. Great for taking duvets to Moran;s or buying a few bottles of wine. Succumb away!

Hi Jill, I have a Rolser it’s fantastic. People have stopped me in the street to ask me about it it’s a big soft but sturdy bag on 4 wheels . Nothing like a Sholley very easy to manoeuvre even when it’s full. Push it instead of dragging it. I can show you ( from a distance ) if you pop by.

Welcome to the new 50.  Now for eggs you will find them at M&S plus some delicious hot cross buns to have with your restorative coffee when you return home.  Happy Birthday for next week.  You will also be getting an increase to your state pension if you have not already received it.
