Hammersmith and Fulham Closing Parks

They are going to shut all council run parks after tonight. That will include Ravenscourt Park. They say they will keep the decision under review. My guess would be that this will force neighbouring councils to take the same action as their own parks will become more crowded.

https://www.royalparks.org.uk/home/coronavirus-updates"The Royal Parks remain open and are vitally important at this time. However, social distancing, as set out by the Government, is absolutely crucial. We have, therefore, taken the decision to close all our remaining take-away cafés and kiosks with immediate effect as people are not adhering to social distancing guidelines. We have also made the decision, based on police advice, to start closing our roads to traffic in the outer parks (Richmond, Bushy and Greenwich Parks). Roads will remain open in the inner parks (Hyde, Regent’s, St James’s Parks), but all designated car parks are now only open for key workers with a permit."

A BBC news item states "Some parks in London are being closed as the numbers of visitors means people are unable to maintain safe distances."Surely this will mean that people with a mind to get out and get some exercise will be confined to even more crowded streets.

"Surely this will mean that people with a mind to get out and get some exercise will be confined to even more crowded streets." You could have walked down my street at any time today and hardly seen a soul. If you need to get out, stick to back streets.

Having been largely confined to home for the best part of the week my family was able to take a trip out to Gunnersbury park yesterday. It was a busier than it would be than usual but not to the extent that social distancing could be compromised. The boost that we all got, particularly the dog, will be vital in helping us all see this through. A large part of the green space in the park is fenced off due to the construction but the area enclosed seems unnecessarily large. This forces people to walk along the path at the perimeter, when we saw this we turned around to find a part of the park in which people weren't forced into a confined space. Opening that up could significantly increase the capacity of the park to remain open safely.

The new playing fields are fenced off to stop people trampling the growing grass. Taking the fence down would ruin years of work.

The restrictions for park usage being introduced by Ealing Council(see front page news) seem more measured that Hammermith's total closures.
