Social Distancing  but not in Chiswick ☹

Watering the plants on my front balcony and noticed a short queue outside Dyas, 2 women were at front of queue when 2 more women came upto them - much hugging and cheek kissing they then disembraced and stood about 6 - 8 inches apart. The rest of the people in the queue were about 3ft apart. Then there were all the folk strolling along the pavement and the 6m distance between people not being adhered to.What's wrong with some people ? Grossly irresponsible, thoughtless and selfish.Apologies, rant over

Have you seen the pictures of Bournemouth, Southend a Snowdonia this afternoon. Richmond Park and other Royal Parks have been closed because of crowding today.Dukes Meadows appears to have a crowd as well, judging by the number of pedestrians and cars heading down Riverside Drive this afternoon and that has nothing to do with the food market.

It looks as if people will only stop doing things when they're forced to. 'Avoid going to the pub' had to become 'pubs will be closed' before people took any notice. 'Only buy what you really need' had to become 'two items only'. I guess people are taking a chance to go out for a stroll or have friends round for a BBQ this lovely Spring Sunday before 'please stay at home' becomes an enforced curfew, as in many other European countries.

It really is shocking the ignorance of people, we will end up mandatory lockdown because of a few selfish people. What don’t they get????? stay home unless absolutely necessary, less pressure on NHS, less deaths, we will get through this quicker, simple message. Silly people.

The leader of the Chiswick Councillors came onto this website and forum yesterday encouraging people to hit the High Road with a list of opening times of shops selling furniture, carpets, interior decorations and other non-essential items with the message “Chiswick is open” and is defended by the OP today several hours after she objected to people not observing social distancing guidelines from the government. Where is the common sense?

As always you're deliberately twisting and manipulating what has been written as an editorial and what I've posted. You're confusing social distancing with businesses trying to survive, very tacky tactics by you, but now's new there.Now is not the the time for your petty point scoring, apart from anything else it was the businesses listed in the article who  asked Chiswicks Councillors to get the message across that they are open for business. These independent small businesses are fighting for survival, have employees, rent, rates, VAT to pay and families to support.Yet you, Mr Campbell, take cheap shots to denigrate hardworking Councillors and small independent struggling businesses by endeavouring  to score a few points. SHAME ON YOU, especially in this time of crisis. Other than this post I'm not responding to you. Oh, and one more thing, you are a truly nasty piece of work lacking empathy or consideration for others.

I imagine a lot of people went to Richmond park on the assumption that it is huge, so it should be easy to get some exercise/walk the dog etc well away from anyone else — as it is normally. Sounds like everyone had the same idea if it was rammed. I guess the road closures are to make it harder for people to travel (drive) to the park thereby limiting visitors to those within walking distance.  If there are loads of bike clubs still meeting up and forming pelotons etc then that does seem pretty irresponsible.  It would be a shame to close the park, but i guess it's the only option if it ends up with too many cyclists/walkers every day.

No you are wrong. I take this situation extremely seriously. I have been trying to convey the seriousness of the public health crisis that is about to hit us on this forum for weeks because I have had access to insights from experts. Now that it is obvious what is going on I am totally genuine in my disgust for what Joanna did yesterday. Read her OP on the forum and any fool can see that I am not manipulating her words: “Chiswick is open”. Whether the shops asked her to say that is neither here nor there; she should have exercised her judgment as a public official with influence and realised the foolishness of conveying such a message when the government is desperately trying to get us all to behave responsibly so they do not have to impose a lockdown. This is not open to interpretation like #cherrygate. This is cut and dry and totally wrong. By all accounts the High Road was packed today and it shouldn’t be.Your ad hominem hysterics just show that your personal loyalties cloud your judgment and contradict your own instincts.

It was a niave thing to say.I understand what she was trying to do but she did it the wrong way and should be taking the lead in promoting self isolation.It's a unique situation here and with all sympathies to local businesses,  this is not a time to be trying to get people out shopping.

Had to whiz The Terrierists to Turnham Green for 5 mins for a comfort break as I don't have a garden, and the number of people who were only a maximum of 1ft or 2ft apart was alarming. Also it seems the old Carluccio's site is having work done, and again the workmen were definitely not observing the Government guidelines on social distancing. Subway have a constant stream Deliveroo motorbike couriers going in and out who, dare I say, probably pay scant regard to hygiene and hand washing or keeping their gloves sanitized, thus transference of any virus or germs is probably high. McDonald's, Costa and other fast food and takeaway outlets are ceasing trading tonight and so should all the others.The sooner we have Total Lockdown, with a few exceptions for the essentials of life, the better for us all.

Even in a lockdown you should be able to take the dogs out for a short walk however a lockdown would make it safer for you.I agree we need a lockdown and we needed it 2 weeks ago,  today would be better than tomorrow.

I'm taking them out as soon as its light for their main walk which is now Dukes Meadows as CH doesn't open until 7am. Didnt see a soul this morning. I'm 70 next month and have a compromised immune system due to Type 1 Diabetes, so I need to be very careful, but Dogs need to be walked and their wellbeing taken into the equation.Hopefully we will all get through this nightmare 🙏

Well with the numbers of runners about on the tow path I'm thinking of taking up running if fitness is not seen as irresponsible . On that note, should a dog be walked by more than one person or more, yet another action that can be seen as irresponsible. But i say that as a thought only as it must be good if an elderly couple need to get out and walk the dog keeping to open spaces.It is a bit hit and miss aslo when one council alone takes action.It is all a bit patchy but I do believe that lockdown would start to fall apart after a month unless you have the police and the forces applying it. I know we have some people on here who seem to spend one's life watching multiple box sets and tv in general but not something that is for all.On top of that Lockdown in other countries has not stopped the virus spreading, that saying,Italy did close down the north and everyone who could or wanted to escaped to the south.Anyone up for some live YouTube knitting lessons
