Take the Blame. Don’t lay the blame

We all seek to lay the blame on somebody else in today’s society. It’s time to stop. We cannot blame a government for making the wrong decisions at a time like this. We cannot blame the health services for not being able to provide us with what we need. Nobody knows what to do in a situation like this. It is time for each of us to take responsibility for our actions. We need to assume that we may be carrying the virus ourselves, even though we may show no symptoms. We need to assume that everyone we meet could be a carrier. Every risk we take could put somebody else’s life in danger or prevent our health services from coping.  Take the blame don’t lay the blame.  Flatten the curve.

What an odd thing to say. First of all you say don’t blame anyone and then say that we must take the blame. Why can’t we blame any  government for mishandling any situation? Now might not be the right time but questions will need to be asked. I agree that we should all alter our behaviour and assume that we all have the virus even if we have no symptoms. But people have come to that conclusion themselves - there has been no government advice to that effect. I think you should have said ‘Take responsibility’

Less blame, if needed at all especially in time of crisis, is sensible. However, governments and their leaders are under constant scrutiny. Some leaders are more able than others. Did anybody else hear Gordon Brown on R4 this morning?

But our government should take responsibility. If they don't want people eating out or going to pubs or clubs they should order them to close, like other countries have done. If they want to 'support business' they should give them enough money to carry on, like other countries have done, and not make vague promises about 'guarantee packages'. If they want to support workers they should give them real money and not make vague promises about changes to the benefit system. So they dump the responsibility/blame on us so it'll be our fault if anything goes wrong.

I feel you are right, Peter.There is a TED talk from 2015 by Bill Gates doing the rounds which very succinctly outlines the inevitability of a pandemic and how ill-prepared we were/are for such an eventuality. He also outlines what needed to be done when it happens using technology and common sense. Worth looking at.

I ignored your post yesterday and I've slept on it before replying.I'm sorry Christina but the Govt took a risk knowing perfectly well that a pandemic was a possibility.  This is for real - our lives and those of our loved ones - not just a game.Yes we do all now have to step up to support our NHS, by keeping on washing our hands and coughing or sneezing into the crook of the arm like Elmer and Rosita from Sesame Street and all children - the biggest and cutest germ carriers there are - need to be taught this.  The coughing into our hand that we learnt as children has been superseded.  We can distance ourselves from each other, register online with our GPs and follow the directions for online consultations so we don't pass on anything we might have caught.We can also call for better PPE and training in its use for our dedicated and overworked medical staff.Take personal responsibility and good luck everyone!

They can't think past Business as Usual?  Some companies were already ahead with more flexible working and video conferencing.
