Menos Lighting, Acton High Street

Not Chiswick, obviously, but I know that Menos lighting shop has been mentioned on this site before, invariably favourably, since they stock a huge range at very reasonable prices.Anyhow, I happened to be passing by today and they've got "Closing Down Sale" signs in the window.Which is a real shame, since to my knowledge, they've been there at least 25 years, possibly far longer.Anyhow, it might be worth paying them a visit soon if you happen to need anything of that sort? Before (ahem) the lights go out.

That's sad to hear but thanks for letting us know. I first met Mr Pantizedes(sp?) in 1989 and found him thoroughly likeable.  Not sure if he's still the owner.  The place looked "lived-in" even back then.

I'd imagine the darling old chap who owned this shop has passed away.  Whatever.  But I hope he hasn't been struck down and somehow infirmed because I know he'd never have retired - he lived for his wonderful shop. We'll remember him kindly.  We've a large selection of his glorious Tiffany lamps and I used to enjoy nattering to him for ages whenever we got tempted to buy another. He was a regular at the old Andy's on Bedford Corner and knew the owners well.  Also Efes just round the corner of Broadcasting House where so many of us were regulars..  A true gent...And a very sad loss...

Ah, memories of Andy's with him standing behind the counter wearing his little knitted hat. Thje best Iskender kebab anywhere, ever and sadly missed as it was a stalwart for the 'new dad' after visiting my wife and newborn in Queen Charlotte's back in1983 (and 1986).

Are we sure the sign is new? I have a dim recollection of seeing a closing down sign there some time ago but I may be mistaken.

I also have a feeling I saw a closing down sign on this shop at least a year ago. The shop has certainly been there a long time I think it was there when I moved to this area 35 years ago.

38 years.

AO'S: "Are we sure the sign is new? I have a dim recollection of seeing a closing down sign there some time ago but I may be mistaken."Possible, I suppose. I didn't actually go up to the shop, just noticed the signs from my car while crawling along in traffic Acton High Street. Also noticed half a dozen revellers having a smoke break outside The Six Bells (this was midday, btw). Perhaps St.Patrick banished viruses as well as snakes and toads?
