You can buy perfectly adequate blood pressuremonitors for beween £20 and £30. I know they'readequate, because when I was first diagnosed with high BP I bought an Omron with a bulb. And checkedmy BP weekly. After a bit just to be sure I boughtanother one, a Boots own brand automatic which happened to be in a sale. The readings alway match more or less.Monitoring at home avoids white coat syndromewhich can raise BP but you will also find there is variability in readings, They usually go down when you take 2 or 3 readings in succession. You will also get different readings at different times of day.I get lowest readings when sitting down and resting 5 minutes after returning from a longish 6 mile walk,Same with cholesterol. You can buy a meter and strips to measure total cholesterol. What they don't tell you is that studies have established how much this can vary in fit indivduals from day to day " For example, 80 percent of Mogadam's subjects had fluctuations in excess of 30 mg/dl,"(which is 0.77 mmol/L using the unitsfavoured in the UK). So that as blood pressure and cholesterol are always fluctuating the more measurements you takethe closer you'll get to your average, michael adams...
