Estate agents

This afternoon I got a call from one of the estate agents on CHR saying that the market is ‘on fire’ and that this is a great time to put the house on the market.  I can’t imagine he’s right for a second. Any views? Or is it just the usual hype that we have come to expect from this ‘profession’?

Stewart, you got one call from one estate agent so if you don't believe what you were told by one individual why not get a cross section of opinions from a number of people that deal in the market day in day out.Pop into a few offices and have a chat.

"market is ‘on fire’" Total Rubbish,you only have to look at the markets. The only fire is every ftSE 250 is red red red. Unless someone thinks bricks are the investment for the weeks ahead.

That all seems logical except that a house in my road came on the market less than a month ago, at what seemed to me an inflated price, and is already showing as under offer.It may be that people are taking refuge in bricks and mortar.

A massive monetary stimulation by the government is almost inevitably going to result in higher asset prices at some point but I'd be surprised if that was right now given the current uncertainty.

A range of views maybe but usual based on the description of an elephant by a blind man.Oh, and the outpouring by some people of historic anti agent prejudice who like to tar them all with the same brush.

On a similar-ish note, is there any way to stop agents mailing their 'We've got a fat-cat executive who wants a pad like yours' letters to you? Seems awfully wasteful in today's day and age.

I have no doubt that you were an honest estate agent. There are many of them around. But as with all professions, there are some who let down the others. I just thought in this case that a call from an estate agent on CHR claiming that the market is ‘on fire’ raised a few questions. Nothing more than that.
