Trump and  Tom Hanks

Trump is acting very prudently (trump and  prudent in same sentence.!!!!)Banning all flights to mainland Europe). Not sure why UK has not been included. Surely this will encourages travel via UK. Hopefully Boris will take similar action today. Tom Hanks has confirmed he has the virus and has painted a balanced picture on Twitter. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that come and went. Slight fevers too.To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive".We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?"Keep healthy and be sensibly and look out for the elderly and vulnerable.

Not sure why UK has not been included. Because he despises the EU and decided to make this political.  He also said he would ban EU cargo then backtracked via tweet of course.

I agree with you Sean.Trump has done the right thing for the wrong reasons (he wants someone to blame and divert attention from him).He should have included UK and I dont see what's stopping people just travelling here and flying on.We are in a crisis and as usual economics come first. We are an island and should shut our borders to all flights/trains etc like US - for at least a couple of weeks. The scary thing on this is the "real" reported numbers are nothing like the "dont panic" projections from our government.Examples...Italy 12.5k cases, 800 dead, 9.5k active cases 1k critical 1k recoveredChina 81k cases, 3k dead, 15k active cases 4k critical 62k recoveredGlobally the death rate to closed cases is 6%.Crictial cases to open cases is 11% (and that includes Iran who claim 100% of open cases are "mild")This is very serious and we need very serious measures to contain it. Not the economic triage approach currently being employed

Agree with you Richard.

Rather hoping Boris will do something radical today about banning flights.

Sean Wales ● 2429d

Flights. And sports events and exhibitions and conferences and theatres and cinemas and concerts and festivals and...(I see the LibDems have canned their Spring conference. Guess they know better than to wait on Johnson's government to do something in the public good.)

Ken Munn ● 2429d

Don't see any need for the Lib Dems to cancel their conference. Only events which a large number of people are likely to attend present a risk.

Too easy Anita! ;)

The Government is still in it's "do nothing" phase... hiding behind the "best" sceintific advice... in this case "best" being the chosen best for costing the least. In that repsect they are not much different to Trump in focus on economic impact first, foremost, everything.. just a bit more subtle.Maybe they're hanging on until Easter before a "lockdown"?  Schools are off; couple of bank hols - so it won't cost as much?

Richard Potts ● 2429d

Even Ireland are closing schools now and they currently have 43 cases. All we get from our Government is  "4 phase" bullet points that have come directly from a market powerpoint.

Richard Potts ● 2429d

I think Trump just wants someone to blame.

Philippa Bond ● 2428d

I think you can leave that to the CCP in time to come.

Julian Pavey ● 2428d

"I think Trump just wants someone to blame."He usually blames Obama, even for things that happened before Obama was president.

Richard Greenhough ● 2428d

Just proves that in nature, there is no justice.

When schools are closed who looks after the kids?  Mum and dad likely to be working, and probably not from home, so it will often be the grandparents who are old and vulnerable in many cases!
