Does anyone have any suggestions for a venue for a party of about 40 people locally? Would prefer to self-cater although a bar would be handy. Ideally something with quite a late licence.

Chiswick Memorial Club has an upstairs room with a bar they hire out.

Had a celebratory do with some friends and families a couple of years ago upstairs in the Crown & Anchor, Chiswick High Road. There were about 50 people present and the drinks and catering were excellent - a good time had by all.

Second Chiswick Memorial Club and they don't have in-house functions on Saturdays if that would be useful to you.

Should have added that late licences could be arranged, although always open until midnight.
Many of the local sports clubs have function rooms which they rent out and are usually much better value than commercial alternatives. London Corinthians has already been mention and that is a cracking place to have an event. I think Mortlake and Anglian boat club also cater for small events and once again that is a terrific location. Most rowing clubs with clubhouses offer them for hire.Away from the river there are a few options as well which may be less expensive. Old Actonians has a very nice facility and there is a fantastic club house at the Chiswick Cricket Club which is advertising itself as the Pavilion on this site. It has the benefit of onsite parking and would make for a memorable location for a do particularly if you had good weather.

Thank you all, some really great suggestions which are proving very useful.

Felicity, it is probably worth stressing that if you book at a facility at a local sports club some of what you spend is likely to go to support their activities.
