They are attempting to blackmail Sadiq Khan because they know a strike during the mayoral election would be very damaging for him.TfL is very cash strapped and the RMT know this and the RMT is also cash strapped because of the failed long term strike on South Western Railway. Therefore they will probably settle for a minor concession which Sadiq Khan will be happy to give to make the problem go away.

More to the point, the technology for driverless trains has existed for years, indeed is already operating on the DLR for instance.Disgraceful, really.

You don't need the 'stress' of pressing the door open button to earn a decent salary with TfL.
A Station Supervisor's basic salary is £49.048 with 52 (yes that is 52) days annual holiday.

The Tube was built in 1863, the DLR 1987 (Bakerloo/Piccadilly trains pre-date the DLR by around 15 years). 121.8 million passengers on the DLR every year, 1.357 billion on the Tube. Overground (bar four DLR stations) vs underground. 15 TPH on the most frequent DLR route (7-ish on most others), 36TPH on the Victoria line (24 on the Piccadilly).I'm sure the Tories will say it's "easy".

The Jubilee Line only pre-dates the DLR by eight years but still. supposedly needs a driver to operate the trains.
The RMT resist change at every opportunity. Good on them for initially getting a good deal for their members but the disparity with other 'real world' jobs is getting out of hand.
