Chiswick post office aghhh

My god what a terrible place 40 min queuing 2 staff  and one of them trainee but no one Training her overcharged me as well .Beware

Next time go to the post office at the back of Efficient Stationers at the very beginning of King Street W6 - much quicker service, generally little queuing and very helpful people.

Whether one would need to be a conspiracy theorist to suggest that deliberately starving crown Post Offices of staffas a deliberate ploy by Post Office Counters so as to enable them to sell off real estate which is very often in prime locations, with the minimum of fuss from the public, is maybe a moot point.michael adams

I for one won't miss the Post Office or its hideous building, I can't imagine anything they build in its place could be worse.  All the services most people need are easily and pleasantly available at the (dog-friendly to boot) Mailboxes shop on the High Road.  The only problem is when you need to collect a parcel - if you live a way away from Bollo Road and don't drive a car or use a bike it's a trek, and impossible if you are picking up a very heavy parcel, it would have to be a cab or kind friend job.

And if you live at the top of The Avenue nowhere near those bus routes?  An E3 down to the High Road, find the right bus stop for the buses you mention and then take another bus on the route you mention - and isn't one of those routes changing in the near future too?  Nightmare.

They are phenomenally useless. Went there yesterday to buy a jiffy bag envelope and post some documents. There was not one single working pen in the building. Several chains with nothing on the end. Empty biros at the lottery kiosk. But nothing to actually write an address on an envelope. How hard can it be to provide writing implements in a post office?

A few days ago a friend in Australia made a costume jewellery necklace for a friends 70th birthday and posted it to Cambridge. The friend received a note to say that there would be a £35 customs fee to pay plus an £8.50 handling fee.My Australian friend has been doing this for friends for over 30 years without any such charge being made and was not informed that this was now the case.Her friend has taken this up with the Post Office and been told that the charges have been recently introduced  and that she will not receive the package unless she pays.It isn't the Crown Jewels, it's just pieces of vintage plastic and that was made clear when it was posted.

There isn't going to be a next time. The friend in Cambridge was told furthermore that she must prove the value of the contents which hadn't been bought but had been lovingly handmade so there was no receipt.The same has happened to my daughter after she bought something on eBay.On Friday I was hit by a car whilst crossing a side road. The car hit my right leg and knocked me across the road before the back of my head hit the road.The driver and 3 passengers were appalled. He said that he couldn't see me in the dark because the new streetlights were too tall and not enough light on the ground. After spending most of the night in A&E when X-Ray's showed no fractures ( great shouts of joy from doctors and nurses ). Just a lot of bruises and my neighbours say that I must wear a hi-viz vest!My Australian friend says that it wouldn't be the most stylish fashion accessory and she could make me a light reflective necklace as an alternative.In view if the latest package news, cancel the necklace.

We are losing both the post offices in Grove Park next year apparently, that’s going to make the situation in the main post office even worse!

Ouch Rima, I hope you're ok and that you got their details.You should report it to the police if you haven't already, in case the driver has a history of doing this so they can put a stop to it.It's totally unacceptable for them to blame streetlights. If his headlights aren't lighting up pedestrians enough to see them, he needs his driving licence to be cut up.Hopefully he has reported it to the police by now, which he's required to do within 24 hours.https://www.met.police.uk/report/report-a-road-traffic-incident/report-a-collision-in-which-at-least-one-person-was-injured/

It’s quite worrying that everything is becoming so difficult for the general public nowadays... also for workers who will have to cope with the extra demand..I was thankful when I received a registered letter on Friday that I didn’t have to take the E3 bus and then the 440 to Acton which would have taken half the morning to get it.  What a nonsense!

Thank you for your concern Alex.I was walking across Priory Gardens to continue along Bath Road as I have a million times and as always, looked both ways before stepping out. I didn't immediately know what had hit me and in a state of total shock tried to convince myself that I was ok. There was a huge bump on my head and I realised that I couldn't get up because my leg hurt.I said that I lived round the corner and my neighbour is a doctor so the driver knocked on her door and she came immediately to look at my injuries whilst her husband phoned my son at work and questioned the driver who admitted that he had driven round the corner too fast.The doctor tested my vision and inspected my leg before saying that since I could move my foot without further pain it may not be fractured and there was no need for an ambulance but head and leg should be X-Rayd. My son arrived and took me straight to Charing Cross where we spent a few hours.I don't know if my neighbour took the drivers details but he was so distraught that I think he must have learnt a lesson and its fortunate that my injuries weren't more serious.Hopefully just housebound and hobbling about on crutches for a few days.Forget the hi-viz vest!

If you live at the top of the Avenue you are right next to the spot where there are a bunch of mobikes parked.Its a pretty good system (like Boris bikes but no need to park them at a designated spot) and cheap.Give it a whirl.

I have also been charged VAT and customs clearance on a gift sent from abroad. I was most upset about it when collecting from the Bollo Lane sorting (?) office (i.e not a post office). I still don’t see the relevance to Milan’s helpful post.

I posted on the other thread to ask Milan if he knew what was happening with these fees and he has very helpfully sent a link.Also to let others know about this before they start sending and receiving Christmas parcels.The Cambridge friend went to the PO, picked up and paid for the package. The lady who served her felt sorry for her and waived the handling fee but couldn't do anything about the customs fee of £35.

For the record, I had to pop into Chiswick P.O. twice today - service was swift and efficient, with the queuing managed well.And more generally, I've never found it so bad as some (many?) other people seem to do, even when I was using it heavily for Business purposes over 3 or 4 months a while back.

It’s obviously hit and miss as I went last Thursday afternoon to Heathfield Terrace post office - no queue whatsoever and really efficient service.

I know its a bit of a treck but I very much favour the PO on Acton Vale which is run by Mr & Mrs Patel who are stars . They always seem to get the posting right which cannot be said for Chiswick where i regularly reckon I am overcharged. Its also easy to park imo whereas those horrid warden infest the Chiswick PO area . Also their stationary is a fraction of the Chiswick PO price
