Virendra Sharma now discharged and 'recovering well' at home
Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma has had to be hospitalised after developing coronavirus symptoms last week.
Although he was initially not seriously ill, he self-isolated but then his condition deteriorated and he was taken to Hillingdon Hospital where he tested positive for Covid-19. He was having trouble breathing and remained at the hospital for a week. He has now been discharged and is recovering well at home.
He said, “My care was exceptional, and I want to pay an enormous tribute to all the staff at Hillingdon Hospital and across the NHS, working so hard, and doing so much at this time of immense pressure.
“Now I am back home again and self-isolating, and following I want to urge everyone else to do the same. Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives. The amazing men and women of the NHS working in almost impossible situations, with too little kit and too little support deserve our help. I am asking every one of you to do what you can to help them. If you have PPE please let us know. “
He is continuing to deal with case work including that of the many people who have friends and family stranded abroad.
He added, “Please rest assured I have been liaising with the Foreign Office on this matter, and my staff continued to work on this while I was in hospital. We have had some positive developments on this, but it is not yet resolved for all. If you are a constituent and still have family members stranded abroad do let me know.”
He urged everyone to work together in this difficult time and follow government advice. He said that If you are vulnerable or know of people who are, to make sure they have access to Ealing Together, the local service to support those most in need.
He reserved special praise for his own staff without whom he says he wouldn’t have been able to help as many people as he has done during the crisis.
