Model planes planted to illustrate impact of further development
Ealing Aircraft Noise Action Group and West London Friends of the Earth ‘planted’ model planes on Norwood Green, Southall, to draw attention to the noise and air pollution danger a third runway at Heathrow would bring to the area.
About 300 planes were planted, representing (approxinmately) he number of planes that would fly over the area daily if a third runway was built.
There are currently 650 landings and 650 take-offs a day at Heathrow, and a third runway would add half as many again.
The planes were on thin wooden sticks and did not harm the grass. The group made their protest, took the photos and then removed the planes.
