Mystery Man Seen At Ealing Broadway Finally Identified

Year long investigation ends with naming of body found near reservoir

A man who was seen at Ealing Broadway train station before later being found dead near a reservoir in the north of England has now been identified.

After an investigation lasting around a year, police now say the man is known to be David Lytton from London who was 67-years-old at the time of his death. He is not believed to be from the Ealing area.

His body was discovered at Dovestone reservoir near Oldham on 12 December, 2015.

Greater Manchester Police used DNA to match with a relative to confirm identity. He was found with a bottle with writing in Arabic on it which it is believed contained strychnine. Mr Lytton had earlier travelled from Pakistan where the product, which is banned in the UK, is available for sale. The police had been able to confirm he had travelled from Pakistan after the post mortem examination showed that he had undergone a surgical procedure using a device that was unique to that country. It then transpire that he had flown in from Pakistan two days before being seen on CCTV in Ealing.
