Story of war poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen
Not About Heroes tells the story of the friendship between war poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, this touching play opens on the 9th November for a limited time only.
They fought on the Western Front and first met as patients at a military hospital in Edinburgh in 1917. Owen was in awe of Sassoon – as a poet and someone known for his bravery in battle. Sassoon became his mentor, and their brief but close friendship stimulated an intense period of creativity.
They spoke out against the patriotism of war through their poetry and brought to light the horror of the trenches. Being in a military hospital without a visible wound, Owen felt he had to prove he wasn’t a coward, so in August 1918 he returned to the front line.
This play is suitable for those aged 12+. Please note there is smoking, strobe lighting and gunshots in this performance.
