Butler to The Stars Is the Real Star

Ealing actor is recognised by the industry for his excellence

A former West End theatre star turned Butler has been awarded one of the highest honours in the hospitality industry.

Jody Crosier has been awarded City and Guilds' Medal for Excellence for his achievement in level three City and Guilds International Professional Butlers' Diploma at the University of West London.

City and Guilds' Medals for Excellence is a global programme that has been running for over 100 years and recognises the achievements of learners, lecturers and trainers in the UK and internationally who produce exceptional work, or overcome the odds to achieve their goals.

City and Guilds award only one medal for excellence for each industry sector per year in the UK and Jody triumphed to become this year's winner.

The acclaimed actor who has starred in Les Misérables and Miss Saigon decided on a career change and used his skills acquired through acting into the hospitality industry.

Having been impressed by the facilities and the quality of courses at the University's award-winning London School of Hospitality and Tourism, Jody enrolled onto course at the University in 2010.

The University offers the only City and Guilds accredited qualification for professional butlers. The International Professional Butlers' Diploma has been specifically designed to train butlers working all over the world and in a variety of prestigious establishments.

The course offers theoretical and practical learning on all aspects of being a butler from housekeeping to storage of fine wines. It wasn't long before Jody's abilities impressed the management at London's iconic Savoy Hotel who offered him work as a butler.

Jody works for a number of A-list celebrities and wealthy clients from around the world. He is responsible for delivering high quality service to the hotel's guests and receives positive feedback from his famous guests.

Jody believes that City and Guilds International Professional Butlers' Diploma provided the groundwork for his career, as the course touches on all areas of hospitality and he has now progressed to a University of West London Hospitality degree programme. He said:

'I am shocked and surprised by this recognition but it reflects the hard work that I have put into my studies. This award will be a positive stepping stone in my career and I'm thankful to the University of West London for all their support.'

Commenting on Jody's win, Patricia Paskins, hospitality lecturer at the University's London School of Hospitality and Tourism, said:

'I am delighted for Jody and I'm really pleased about the effort and dedication that he has shown throughout his studies. The Butlers' Diploma is an important launchpad into this industry and I am glad to see Jody utilising all the opportunities available to him at the University.'
