Greenford venue registered as an Asset of Community Value

An application has been approved to make the Black Horse pub in Greenford an Asset of Community Value.
It was submitted to Ealing Council by a newly established local group, ‘Protect the Black Horse’, set up and chaired by James Murray MP and the listing took effect on 8 August.
The listing gives a building some protection against being sold off and turned into flats. It means that if the pub’s owner, Fuller’s, tried to sell the Black Horse, the community can block the sale for six months. This gives time to try to put together a community bid to buy the pub instead.
The listing of the pub as an asset of community value lasts for five years, and an application can be made to renew that listing beyond that time.
Mr Murray, who represents Ealing North, started his campaign to protect the Black Horse after rumours that the pub landlords, Fuller’s, were considering selling the pub. Fuller’s has previously denied any intent to sell the pub however, when the MP wrote to it in June 2021, the company declined to categorically rule out a sale or give any details of its plans for the site.
Mr Murray set up a petition in favour of keeping the pub which was signed by over 1,000 people and submitted to Fuller’s in July 2021.
Then, in March 2022, he hosted a public meeting attended by over 80 people to discuss ways of protecting the pub which resulted in the founding of the ‘Protect the Black Horse’ group.
A committee was elected at their inaugural meeting, which the MP worked with to write the Asset of Community Value application, including by taking advice from CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale).
We have contacted Fuller’s for comment but are yet to receive a response.
