New Wine Bar Set To Open In Chiswick

Vinoteca moving into the former Oriental Brasserie location in Devonshire Road

Devonshire Road is to get a new wine bar following the closure of the Oriental Brasserie restaurant.

A spokesman for Vinoteca has confirmed that the wine company has secured the site and plans to open its fourth outlet in September.

A Vinoteca branch in London

The company opened its first premises in Farringdon in September 2005 and also has branches in Marylebone and Soho. It says it draws inspiration from the wine bars of Spain and Italy which also function as wine shops. One of the owners, Charlie Young said today that they looked forward to coming to Chiswick.

"After three sites in central London locations, Vinoteca is excited to have been able to secure a modestly sized site in Chiswick. We feel that our emphasis on carefully sourced, high quality & great value wines alongside our daily-changing seasonal menu will complement Chiswick’s diverse range of bars and restaurants.

"We are undergoing a comprehensive strip-out of the site and should be on track to open our 50-seat Wine Bar & Restaurant in the middle of September 2013. We look forward greatly to being part of the Chiswick scene.

Vinoteca is the creation of Brett Woonton, Charlie Young and Elena Ares.

A typical Vinoteca interior

Harden's Restaurant Survey has praised its "eclectic" wine list which it describes as well priced and its "very decent cooking".

The Vinoteca website says their aim is "to create a convivial atmosphere in which to serve high quality, characterful wines  - also available to take away at retail prices – and simple yet imaginative food created from fresh, seasonal produce."

While the restaurant is wine-led, with a list of 25-wines available by the glass, each location has in common, bread baked on the premises, cured meats imported from Spain and a bavette steak dish. The list of 300 wines is updated twice a year.

Another feature is the Vinoteca range of Bag-in-Box wines. The company imports a range of wines directly from the producer which are transported in 10-litre boxes to keep them fresh and then bottled in refillable bottles on site to be drunk in the bar or taken away. Similarly they also offer a Prosecco 'on tap' from vineyards in Valdobbiadene and Conegliano .

Since introducing the system in 2010 they estimate they have saved the use of two tonnes of glass.
