Shopping Channel QVC Official Opening In Chiswick

The multi-million pound retailer QVC has officially opened its new purpose-built Media and Commerce Centre in Chiswick Park (September 26th). The company has invested £33.6 million in the move from its previous base in Battersea to the new Chiswick headquarters. The centre has 500 staff based in the new centre.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Hounslow, Councillor Pritam Grewal and Councillor Ajmer Grewal, along with   Mary Macleod MP, and local Councillors Paul Lynch and John Todd.  

They were greeted by Dermot Boyd, CEO of QVC UK and Mike George, President and CEO of QVC, and taken on a tour of the new building including the broadcasting studios and offices.

Also attending the opening were the CEOs of QVC Europe, Germany, Italy, Japan, representatives from QVC US, QVC UK, Enjoy-Work, companies within Chiswick Park (including Discovery Networks, the Walt Disney Company, Paramount Pictures International, Swarovski), the construction/fit-out companies for the building.

The QVC team - from technology, broadcasting and facilities departments - had put over 36,000 hours into the new building to bring the project to fruition, and been supported by numerous external contractors.

QVC UK-the acronym stands for Quality, Value, Convenience- is the largest TV shopping channel in Britain, and broadcasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with 17 hours of live programming each day (from 09:00 to 02:00 UK time).

The flagship building is 13,000 square metres, built over five levels, and took 36,000 hours to complete. Over 140,000m of copper and 3,000m of multi-core fibre cable were used for the complex IT cabling network, and a further 110,000m of cabling was then needed for the TV installation.
