Chiswick jewellery shop goes eco-friendly for summer

Customers of Marmalade jewelleryshop in Turnham Green have been doing a double-take, as the store has taken the outdoors, indoors, with an eco-friendly makeover.

To celebrate a summer of sport, with Wimbledon, the Diamond Jubilee and then the Olympics on the horizon, the owners have had the shop “grassed”.

The new green floor covering, which has also been installed in the display glass cabinets, has been a talking point amongst shoppers in Turnham Green, and captured the imagination of children.

“We’ve had customers coming into the shop telling us their children love it so much they want to have it in their bedroom” says Simon Johnson.

The idea was the brainchild of managing director Nadine Meegan, who then asked Putney-based firm Easigrass to handle the project. It was the first time the company had covered a shop, as they are usually called upon to work in roof terraces, small gardens etc.

“We are delighted with the results’ said Nadine, ‘We wanted to have a look that would last throughout the whole summer through the cricket season, the Olympics and Wimbledon, and the grass achieved just that’

The product is non-toxic, recyclable, pet friendly, child friendly and requires virtually no maintenance. The shop was fitted in less than a day, and the owners plan to add daisies and other accessories to create a even more of a ‘ garden’ feel.
