Independent Local Shops Take the Initiative

Devonshire Road launches publicity campaign

Faced by continued predictions of economic gloom, traders on Devonshire Road have decided to let Chiswick and west London know more about what Chiswick’s best-kept secret has to offer… what makes Devonshire Road so special and so different from the High Road and even Westfield’s. As a result local shop owners banded together to build a website to promote the unique shopping opportunities Devonshire Road has to offer.

Mike Moran of Top Hat Drycleaners said: “Sitting back is not an option when it’s your own business, so we decided to spend a little money and make an effort to attract new people to Devonshire Road.” The aim is to push the level of service and knowledge available on Devonshire Road; something the chains can’t match. Mike continued: “The plan is to establish Devonshire Road as THE place to come to shop and eat in Chiswick.”

Simon Griffiths from Whisk adds “We are promoting Devonshire Road as a destination offering numerous excellent shops and restaurants. There are over 25 shops covering both retail and services, as well as 10 places to eat, ranging from a Michelin star restaurant to simple coffee shop options.”

Ninety percent of the businesses on Devonshire Road are independent and so are owner-run: you will be served by the actual business owners, so they have good reasons to care about the service their customers receive. Bharat Parmer from Genco said “My name is over the door so I really care about the quality and level of service we offer, and I know the other owners feel the same. We’ve all worked hard to build up our businesses and with the support of the locals we can continue to do so.”

Eileen Mackey from Chiswick Pets points to the diverse spread of shops and restaurants, each with their own character to add to the experience visitors have on Devonshire Road. So why not pop along and support local independent businesses run by local people?
