A deal has been signed between Sam’s Larder and Greenhaus Farms, which is based in Chiswick Business Park, for the supply of fresh produce.

Food grown in the ‘vertical farm’ based in shipping containers, without the use of pesticides or chemicals, will be supplied to the deli on Turnham Green Terrace.

The state-of-the-art facility was installed at the end of last year and has already been supplying fresh produce to other local restaurants and businesses.

The indoor farm is a climate-controlled environment, where all external factors that affect plant growth, such as light, temperature, CO2 levels and humidity, are managed in order to create a consistent harvest all year round. Greenhaus says that its method uses 95% less water and 98% less land than traditional farming and removes the carbon footprint of the global supply chain by growing and supplying produce in the local area.

The produce delivered to Sam’s Larder will be packaged and available to buy within hours of harvesting. Greenhaus will be initially supplying fresh basil, rocket and wasabi rocket - with more salads, herbs and leafy greens to follow.

Harrison Pritchard, Greenhaus Farms, said, “We have loved becoming a part of the Chiswick community over the past 6 months, and we are very excited to launch our first packaged products with Sam’s Larder – a champion of quality local produce and sustainable initiatives.

“Greenhaus was born out of the reality that we are facing an environmental crisis, and a real food security problem in the UK. We need to find new and sustainable ways to grow fresh food. We need to use technology and innovation to increase food production whilst reducing the environmental damage of a global supply chain, and the physical footprint of traditional farming. To do this, we need to bring farms closer to people, whilst using less resources and less space. Greenhaus are doing just that, with food that tastes better and lasts longer.”

Sam Harrison said, I love what Greenhaus are doing right here on our doorstep and I am thrilled to be able to stock their fabulous produce. The wasabi rocket is my favourite, but the whole range has stunning flavour.”
