Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School is delighted to announce that it has been Highly Commended in the Creative Innovation Award category at The Big Draw Festival Awards 2025, earning international recognition for its innovative approach to creative education.

The award celebrates the school's contribution to The Big Draw Festival's 25th anniversary year and its response to the theme Drawn Together, which inspired three days dedicated to exploring drawing as a language for learning and connection.

Central to the project's success was its multidisciplinary approach, weaving drawing across Science, Music, PE, French, Computing and Literacy, inviting pupils to explore unexpected connections between subjects. This cross-curricular dimension reflected the school's conviction that creativity is not confined to the art room but is a habit of mind that enriches every area of learning.

Led by Head of Art and Design, Andra Raduca, the project transformed the school hall into an immersive drawing installation, inviting children to explore, interpret and respond creatively through a variety of artistic media. Over three days, 670 children from Ravenscourt Park Prep and neighbouring primary schools participated in the experience, drawing side by side and sharing ideas in a collaborative creative environment. The project also extended beyond the school day, with an evening event welcoming families and members of the local community to take part.

The Big Draw Festival Awards recognise outstanding creativity and innovation from schools, galleries, arts organisations and community groups around the world. In the Creative Innovation category, the overall winner was Leeds Art Gallery, with Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School and Gainsborough's House receiving Highly Commended recognition. Being recognised alongside respected cultural organisations in an international awards programme is a significant achievement and reflects the ambition and impact of creative education at RPPS.

Andra Raduca, Head of Art and Design, said:

"We are honoured that The Big Draw jury recognised the ambition behind the programme and the belief that has always driven it: creative education belongs to every child, across every discipline. It is what drives everything we do."

Carl Howes, Headteacher of Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School, added:

"To be recognised alongside organisations such as Leeds Art Gallery and Gainsborough's House in an international awards programme is a tremendous achievement for our school. This recognition reflects the creativity, curiosity and confidence of our pupils and the passion of our staff. At RPPS, we believe creative thinking should be at the heart of education, and we are delighted that our work has been recognised on such a prestigious stage."

The judges praised this year's entries for demonstrating how drawing can inspire learning, build confidence and bring communities together, making this recognition a significant achievement for the school and its wider community.
