The Hogarth Club raises over £10,000 for Marie Curie UK in their fourth 24 hour Spinathon fundraiser!

Sponsored by Horton & Garton.

Following 24 hour Spinathon charity fundraisers in 2009, 2011 and 2013, this signature Hogarth event made its comeback for 2022 earlier this month! This time for Marie Curie UK, supporting victims of terminal illness. A target of £3,000 was initially set out, but after an immense amount of support and engagement from their community and beyond, The Hogarth saw an unbelievable surge in donations that not only surpassed their target but reached over and above £10,000 from online, offline, cash and sponsor donations!

After a nine year hiatus, the staff and members at The Hogarth forgot about sleep, strapped on some cleats and embraced a sore bum from Friday 7 th  October through to 6pm Saturday 8 th  October 2022.With a record 19 teams cycling, 24 classes back to back, and some drop-ins spinners throughout the night, everyone got stuck in and delivered. “In it to Spin It”, “Wheely Tyred” and “Cyclepaths” were just some of the teams taking part, and the camaraderie throughout kept each other going, particularly in the early hours of Saturday. There was even a first this year: someone who was not on a team jumped on an individual bike during the 2-4am graveyard shift. Now that is getting into the spirit of things!

The Hogarth were cheered on by the Charity themselves on the day of the event, which really gave the entire team a boost:

“Thank you so much for giving up your time, and energy! to do this amazing Spinathon in aid of Marie Curie. Marie Curie relies heavily on brilliant people like yourselves coming together and doing incredible things to raise money.

Your efforts and amazing enthusiasm during the Spinathon will help us fund nurses, hospices and other vital support services caring for individuals and families often in their darkest hours. Every single spin of your wheel will help someone. We’re sending you a massive thank you from everyone at Marie Curie, good luck!”
– Marie Curie Ambassador

The instructors taught their multiple classes with energy and passion, and got everyone through. They put on various themes, from Carnival to Drag to a Singathon - the tunes kept coming and the cranks kept turning! The opening and closing ceremonies were marshalled by the event host, Mr Terry Rodham. With his (in)famous stick, he banged out five classes and led the proceedings throughout.

Along the way there were many exceptional performances. Terry’s “T-Wrecks” team cycled the most miles over 24 hours with 529 (effectively from Chiswick to Geneva). They were not in a neutral gear! They howled in celebration when they were rewarded with tickets to Brentford vs Wolves this month. There were winners of "most average watts in a class" and "best dressed” (which was secured by a bloke riding in 10 inch heels and a short red dress during ‘drag hour’). Further goody bags kindly donated by Technogym went to most hours cycled (6), youngest participant (11) and notable incredible acts for long and late night appearances.

When it comes to spin bikes, Keiser are king and one lucky member even won one of their generously contributed bikes in a silent auction, where funds went straight to Marie Curie. A special shout out to our friends at Horton and Garton who provided all the participants with lovely event t-shirts which you will see sported around W4 in the coming months!

Once that final full class was done it was time to rejoice together and soak up the atmosphere in the Airedale bar, the scene of many a power-napping competitor twelve hours previously.

Nothing will make you forget about your sore bits and sweaty pits like free cocktails or an Aperol spritz.

This event exemplified everything special about The Hogarth Club. It showcased the generosity and determination of its staff and members; some of the Club's incredible partners (in this case, Keiser Fitness and local estate agent Horton and Garton); and, of course, the wonderful community the Club has built up over 40 years of Health and Fitness in the heart of Chiswick.

A message from John Horton, Director of Horton & Garton estate agents – sponsors of The Hogarth 24h Spinathon 2022:

“We are incredibly proud to have taken part and supported The Hogarth Club  24hr Spinathon to raise funds for Marie Curie, a charity that provides vital care and support for those with terminal illnesses and their families. No small challenge, all the participants put in tremendous effort. The Horton and Garton team alone cycled 507 miles between us. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to such a great cause, and of course to the hosts, The Hogarth Club, for making it happen.”

A message from Health & Fitness Manager, Vojin:

“It was phenomenal. The experience was very special. Sharing the event with so many wonderful colleagues, members and friends who made it happen on the day and in the months leading up to it was so inspiring. How everyone supports each other and the generosity of spirit and fun that flows through the 2 days has resonated with everyone who was there. Such a worthy cause has touched so many people taking part, their feedback has often been profoundly moving.  Thank you to Terry for hosting it so brilliantly and please pass on our massive appreciation to all the instructors who kindly delivered all the classes without whom it would be impossible.  It doesn't happen anywhere else. But it does at The Hogarth.”
