Christmas Appeal Raises over £5,000 for charities Also church pledges £25,000 to St. Mary's Convent Appeal and the dates for the Bedford Park Festival are announced
An Advent calendar created by 24 children at St Michael & All Angels Church in Chiswick has helped raise more than £5,000 for charity. They all drew pictures for the calendar, which were used to publicise the St Michael's Christmas Appeal and its Christmas services. The pictures were displayed in three ways: on the internet at
www.stmichaelschristmas.org
, on a giant 6-foot-high Advent Calendar in the church itself,
and in the windows of traders in Turnham Green Terrace, W4.
The money will be divided between four charities: St Mary's Convent & Nursing Home, Chiswick; St Luke's Hospital, Milo, in Tanzania; the Evangelical School in Ramallah, Palestine; and Save the Children. "It's a magnificent achievement and we're grateful to everyone
who contributed" he said. "They include the hundreds
of people who came to our Christmas services, the children who
drew the pictures, our carol singers who raised money at the tube
station, and the businesses in Turnham Green Terrace."
Two local estate agents, Fletcher Estates and Faron Sutaria,
pledged major donations and Indigo Delicafe in the Terrace held
a raffle which raised almost £100 for the Appeal. In addition,
St Michael's Children's Church raised more than £100 with
an Advent cake sale in aid of Save the Children.
"Last year we completed our own Parish Hall Appeal and it's
time we raised more money for others" he said. "We've
pledged to raise £25,000 for St Mary's Convent this year,
most of which will come from our annual Green Days Fete and Bedford
Park Festival this summer." January 25, 2003 Sign up for our free weekly newsletter Church Appeal Reaching Successful Conclusion
