The L-shaped strip, which runs from outside the dry cleaners on The Avenue and then at right angles along in front of the row of shops at Bedford Corner (from the newsagents to the hairdressers) was sold for £14,500 - almost four times its £4,000 estimate.

The final price tag reflected the number of parties that were bidding for the lot which eventually was went to a consortium of Bedford Corner Shop Owners.

100%Bedford Corner was in the news at the end of 2005 when a controversial clamping policy was introduced.

Renovations followed soon after the land had been cleared which resulted in eight brand new parking spaces being built.

Contrary to widespread opinion, the land auctioned this week did not include any of these new spaces which are currently up for rent with local agent MJ Finn at a cost of £2,000 per annum (exclusive).
