Almost 3 decades since John Horton became an estate agent, what insight can he share with locals thinking of moving this year?

Entering their sixth year as a Chiswick Estate Agent, this April Horton and Garton are moving from their Gable House office on Turnham Green Terrace, to their new site at 161 Chiswick High Road.

It’s an opportune time for John Horton to explore his time as an agent, from his first role in 1996, to opening Horton and Garton in Hammersmith in 2008 and now leading a team of 35 staff in assisting with sales, lettings, and property management across West London.

What’s changed for local property over the years?

Across W4, W6 and W12 much has changed, yet much remains the same since John began working as an estate agent in the area.

“During my time as an estate agent Chiswick has continued to cement its position as one of the most desirable suburbs in London.”

Whilst W4 has long appealed to those moving out of central London, especially when finding a place to set down roots with family given the excellent schools, facilities, and exceptional local community, it is now a more exclusive patch of West London. Though the reasons to move here remain very much the same. The demand for family homes in Chiswick has always been strong but has skyrocketed in recent years.

“The area that has seen the greatest change in my time as an agent in W12. Not only have I worked in the area for many years, but I’ve lived locally just as long, buying my first flat on Hammersmith Grove before moving to Chiswick and now living in Stamford Brook where I’m ideally positioned to make the most of everything on offer in W4, W6 and W12,”

Shepherd’s Bush has naturally seen the greatest physical change, with the arrival of Westfield shopping centre and White City’s transformation. W12’s Askew Village is now firmly established as one of West London’s ‘villages’ and this area specifically is seeing more demand now than I’ve ever witnessed before.

But it is Hammersmith that has seen the greatest rise in values since Horton and Garton began assisting with the selling and letting of local homes. Property values across local areas have more than doubled since Horton and Garton opened 15 years ago.

Horton and Garton have been waiting for some time for the right office to become available for the W4 team. John is looking forward to having the visible presence of a high street office compared to the serviced office setting they’ve been in for several years. It allows clients to easily come in and talk to us.

Horton and Garton’s Chiswick team expanded considerably in 2022, together with Chiswick Sales Manager, Louise, John interviewed for the various roles and has assembled a seasoned team with a wealth of local knowledge and experience. Karen Blood and Kay Wright who joined together, have sold homes across Chiswick for many years and both Laura Evans and Louise Worthington are local term W4residents.
