The Devonshire Arms Closes in Chiswick

Restaurant had been open less than a year

The Devonshire Arms pub and restaurant is to close.

Owner Nick Gibson said he was " very sad" to leave Chiswick and thanked all those who had supported him.

"We had very good feedback, both from local people and from reviews, but unfortunately it wasn't enough" he commented.

He also owns a similar pub and restaurant, The Draper's Arms in Islington, which he said is doing very well.

The Devonshire Arms was opened for lunch and dinner seven days a week with a separate bar menu and a dining-room which seated 70 people. The garden, which could seat forty, was also popular.

Fifteen staff will lose their jobs due to the closure.

The restaurant promoted fresh, seasonal British cooking, and a range of British ales, and had been open less than a year. Prior to that, the gastro pub was part of the Gordon Ramsay empire, but it closed in June 2010.

Mr. Gibson said he did not believe the location of the premises was part of the problem, despite comments to that effect.

The closure of the Devonshire Arms is an indication of the challenge faced by independently pub/restaurants at a time when Chiswick is becoming a sought-after location for chains.
