Sir Bradley Wiggins Makes Tideway Rowing Debut

Tour de France winner rowed with Tideway Scullers on Boat Race day

Tideway Scullers in Chiswick had a celebrity guest on Boat Race Day when Sir Bradley Wiggins turned up to take part.

Wiggins has always daydreamed about being an Olympic rower but only took up the sport seriously last year.

Last Sunday, he joined the Tideway Runners Masters B team whilst his coach and friend, James Cracknell, rowed for the Molesey Masters B crew who won the overall event, the Veteran's race.

A comprehensive report carried by WeRow said that the crew had had a total of seven outings in various iterations to prepare for the race but for Wiggins, who up to now had been on the erg or in a sculling boat, rowing in an eight was a relatively new experience.

Wiggins elected to row stroke side owing to injuries sustained whilst cycling. He said “I broke my left hand cycling years ago, so I find the feathering with the right a lot easier than the left.”

After the race he tweeted: "3rd place, Sunday well spent @TidewayScullers"

Wiggins competed in the British Indoor Rowing championships last December, coming in 21st place.
