The only rollersoccer club in the UK is training in Chiswick
Football and skate enthusiasts can combine the two in a game of RollerSoccer as a new club launches in Chiswick this week.
Although it has a contemporary ring to it, rollersoccer has been around for several years, and was founded in south London in 1934 though there is also evidence it was played in 1904.
The London Fire Rollersoccer club kicks off today (April 10) 8-10pm, Friday then weekly in Chiswick School community hall, Staveley Road, W43HU and newbies to the sport can have a free session to try it out.
The organisers say it is the country's smallest roller sport; more people have been to the moon than play this regularly in the UK- though England staged the first world cup in the sport in 2003. They say it is a great ' stressbuster' after a day at work.
The sport is suitable for men and women, and anyone from 11 years up is welcome-Ability level: intermediate level and above is recommended. Elbow, knee and head protection is required. The club is the only Rollersoccer team in the UK, and having despatched an Irish team 16-7 in Brixton last month, are the current UK and Ireland champions. The London team team has also beaten a team set up in Falkirk, Scotland.
They are now preparing for the Rollersoccer world cup which takes place in France in August and have moved to the Community Hall in Chiswick to have a two-hour weekly session to work on skating skills, rollersoccer skills and match practise.
