New Sports Bar For Chiswick High Road

To be opened on the site of the former 1820 bar

A new sports bar is to open in Chiswick shortly. The Number 1 sports bar, which has a branch at 1, City Road, Islington, has plans to open on the site of the former 1820 pub on Chiswick High Road in the early autumn. The premises is to undergo a refurbishment.

The pub in Islington boasts seventeen TV screens and 3D TV and is described by one reviewer as "a bustling city bar" which also has serves freshly-made pub grub.

Some local people living near the site for the new sports bar in Chiswick have expressed some concern about the potential for noise and parking problems. They say that the arrival of the new Italian restaurant, Villa di Geggiano, the Picturehouse Cinema, expected within the next year and now the announcement of the new sports bar, would lead to noise late at night for locals.

The owner/manager of the No 1 Sports Bar, Duncan Townsend, who lives in Chiswick, said that he would be operating a 'high-end venue' and he understood that people had concerns because of the image surrounding sports-bars. He intended to forge links with local rugby and other sports clubs and be part of the community. It would not be a bar with loud live music.

He would be opening within the hours of the existing licence which finishes at midnight. Asked about late-night extensions for events such as National Football League (NFL ) USA he said that he would only pick up on occasional events- most of the late night sports events would be shown at the City premises which had a 24-hour licence.

The new sports bar intends to have individual screens at each table and will serve pub grub including home-made burgers and a comprehensive list of beers.
